Job Description
This position will provide individual and group psychological counseling and crisis response to students, consultation to faculty and staff, campus outreach and support other counseling center needs and projects as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related mental health field.
- At least 2 years of professional experience providing mental health counseling to college learners and/or adult learners.
- Knowledge and competency in culturally informed therapeutic approaches.
- Experience working with underrepresented populations of students.
- Crisis management skills, including experience with risk assessment and safety planning.
- Ability to work flexible hours, evenings, occasional weekends, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related mental health field.
- Counseling licensure (i.e. LCMHC, LMFT, LCSW)
- Experience and or knowledge of working with members of the LGBTQ community.
- Experience and or knowledge of working with victims of intimate partner violence.
Essential Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. - Provide short-term, evidence-based mental health counseling to individual learners and/or couples and/or groups.
- Perform emergency and crisis intervention when indicated; appropriately refer learners for emergency treatment when applicable.
- Maintain timely records of services provided to learners and use appropriate record keeping protocols.
- Make referrals to and coordinate mental health care for learners who need to be linked to community psychological and psychiatric service providers.
- Develop and disseminate educational and training resources on mental and emotional health and wellness for learners, groups, and campus divisions.
- Provide consultation to Forsyth Tech faculty and staff regarding learner mental health concerns that may arise.
LANGUAGE SKILLS :
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS :
- Perform basic mathematical operations in problem solving.
- Develop and compile statistical information that may require the knowledge of fractions, percentages and other mathematical concepts.
REASONING ABILITY :
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES : - Understand and be committed to the unique nature and role of the College.
- Demonstrated personal and professional competence in the field of personal, social, academic, and career counseling.
- Ability to use computer to communicate, complete research, maintain records, and prepare documents.
- Exceptional skills in interpersonal relations.
