Union Representative / Organizer

Based in Boston, MA

An immediate opening is available for an experienced Representative/Organizer position, working under the supervision of the Contract Enforcement Director. 

UNITE HERE Local 26 is a progressive labor organization. We represent over 14,000 workers who work at hotels, universities, casinos and airports in Greater Boston and Rhode Island. Our commitment is to develop leadership among rank-and-file members, to organize the unorganized and to build a strong union based on membership involvement and participation.

Candidates must have experience working as a union representative/organizer and demonstrate a commitment to working for social justice by building a strong labor movement. The position entails irregular hours including work in the evenings and weekends.

Candidates with sufficient experience may be eligible for Lead or Director Organizing Positions.

Responsibilities

• Identify and develop leadership among the rank-and-file members.
• Work with members to enforce collective bargaining agreements including representing members at grievances
• Mobilize members to participate in picket lines, rallies and demonstrations.

Qualifications

• Experience as a union representative and/or organizer.
• Commitment to rank and file leadership development.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision.
• Ability to work with a diverse, multi-cultural membership.
• Ability to speak one of the following languages preferred: Cantonese, Spanish or Haitian Creole.
• Willing to work long hours and weekends as needed.

Compensation & Benefits
The salary for Representative/Organizer starts at $72,725. Local 26 provides a generous benefit package including fully paid family medical, dental and vision coverage, a defined benefit pension plan, 11 paid holidays and three weeks of paid vacation after one year of service.
