Work Arrangement: Onsite only

Location: Texas Medical Center, Houston, TX

Salary Range: $63,052 to $74,178

FLSA Status: Exempt

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and organized Research Nurse to join our team and support multiple research projects involving pediatric patients with immunodeficiencies in the Allergy & Immunology Division. This position provides professional nursing expertise for patient-facing clinical research activities, including screening, enrolling, consenting, and educating participants, as well as collecting biological specimens and administering study medications in accordance with study protocols and regulatory guidelines. The Research Nurse maintains accurate patient charts and regulatory documentation to ensure compliance with FDA and institutional requirements, and works closely with physicians, research staff, and families to support smooth study operations and high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment. Additional responsibilities include maintaining a clean and safe work environment, assisting with study data collection, and performing other research-related duties as assigned.

Job Duties

  • Supports 3-5 physicians in managing research portfolios by recruiting, screening, enrolling participants, and conducting study visits.
  • Leads project management as a coordinating site for multi-center studies, including developing manuals of procedures, case report forms, training materials, and serving as the central communication hub across sites.
  • Coordinates, collects, processes, and documents biological specimens (e.g., blood, buccal); monitors vitals as needed and reports abnormal findings to the PI.
  • Administers protocol-required or investigational medications, ensuring dosing accuracy, monitoring adverse events, and maintaining proper documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Coordinates research visits with patients, physicians, fellows, labs, and collaborators, aligning consent, specimen collection, REDCap Updates, and procedures with clinic workflows.
  • Maintains accurate study documentation and performs QA/QC of research data; prepares for audits, monitoring visits, and sponsor requests.
  • Ensures compliance with NIH, IRB, and institutional regulations by maintaining current study documents and supporting quality assurance activities.
  • Educates patients and families on study purpose, procedures, risks, follow-up, lab requirements, and medication protocols using clear, age-appropriate communication.
  • Serves as a liaison among clinical teams, laboratories, investigators, and sponsors; provides updates on enrollment, sample workflows, and study progress to ensure smooth operations.
  • Manages study supplies and maintains a clean, safe work environment.
  • Supports protocol amendments, study start-up activities, REDCap development, data abstraction, inventory tracking, and workflow improvements across teams.
  • Coordinates sample workflows involving clinical labs, research labs, and external collaborators while ensuring protocol integrity and institutional compliance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year or more of clinical research experience, ideally in pediatric, immunology, allergy, hematology/oncology, or genetics-related studies.
  • Experience obtaining informed consent and pediatric assent, as well as collecting and processing biological specimens such as blood or buccal samples.
  • Proficiency in Epic for chart review, documentation, and research workflows.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary research activities with physicians, fellows, and laboratory teams, and supporting regulatory documentation, REDCap data entry, and maintenance of research logs.
