Job Description and Duties

Under general direction of the Supervising Program Technician III, the Program Technician (PT) III in the Problem Resolution Expedite Section analyzes and interprets criminal history documents and resolves all complex errors or omissions prior to submission for entry into the Automated Criminal History System. The PT III must have a thorough knowledge of various statutory code sections and the criminal justice process.

Working Conditions

This position is designated for telework under Government Code section 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California and may require reporting to headquarters or field offices and facilities to fulfill operational needs. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the Department of Justice policies.

This position is eligible for telework and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

  • Demonstrated experience analyzing and interpreting criminal history records or similarly complex legal/technical documents, including identifying discrepancies and determining appropriate actions.
  • Proven ability to independently resolve complex issues by applying policy, research, and critical thinking, with minimal supervisory input.
  • Consistently exercises sound judgment when making decisions that impact sensitive or high-risk outcomes.
  • Ability to manage a high-volume workload independently, prioritize competing tasks, and meet established deadlines.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to clearly document findings, justify decisions, and correspond professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex information clearly and respond effectively to questions or challenges.
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining confidentiality, including adherence to data security protocols and responsible handling of sensitive information.
