Job Title: Building & Grounds Maintenance Technician / Shop Porter
Department: Facilities & Operations
Reports To: Service Manager / General Manager
Position Summary
The Building & Grounds Maintenance Technician / Shop Porter is responsible for maintaining the appearance, cleanliness, safety, and functionality of company buildings, grounds, and shop facilities. This position combines facility maintenance duties with shop porter responsibilities to ensure a clean, organized, professional, and efficient work environment for employees and customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Building & Grounds Maintenance
- Perform routine inspections of buildings, grounds, and parking areas.
- Maintain landscaping, including mowing, trimming, edging, weed control, and debris removal.
- Remove trash from grounds, parking lots, and common areas.
- Perform minor building repairs, including painting, drywall repair, door adjustments, and basic carpentry.
- Replace light bulbs, filters, and other building maintenance items as needed.
- Monitor and maintain building systems and report repair needs.
- Assist with seasonal maintenance such as snow removal, ice control, and storm cleanup.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of storage areas and maintenance equipment.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies.
Shop Porter Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the service shop, wash bays, and surrounding work areas.
- Sweep, mop, and pressure wash floors as needed.
- Empty trash containers and dispose of waste properly.
- Clean customer waiting areas, restrooms, break rooms, and office common areas.
- Move vehicles and equipment safely within company property.
- Assist technicians with shop organization and material handling.
- Transport parts, supplies, tools, and equipment as directed.
- Ensure exterior customer and service areas remain clean and presentable.
- Assist with vehicle washing and detailing when required.
- Support facility setup and cleanup for meetings, events, or special projects.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in facility maintenance, groundskeeping, janitorial services, or shop operations preferred.
- Basic knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
- Ability to operate lawn care equipment, pressure washers, and cleaning equipment safely.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Forklift experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work outdoors for extended periods.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and shop environments.
- Ability to safely operate vehicles and maintenance equipment.
